Career Plans

I would like to complete Fire Officer II by the end of 2010.

Why did you join the fire department?

In 1984 I witnessed a plane crash and along with other members in the Air National Guard we initiated patient care including CPR on a small child. After that incident, Asst. Chief Keith Mitchell asked if I wanted to join the fire department. After joining the department my career path followed much of the same course and doors were opened to allow me to obtain a career as flight nurse at the level of Chief Flight Nurse.

What are your hobbies and/or interests outside of the fire department?

My family is most important to me but fortunately they are a big part of the fire department and love participating in events. I enjoy motorcycling, boating, skiing, hunting and fishing. As president of the Red Knights Motorcycle Club, WV Chapter II, my hobby allowes me to ride with other firefighters and ems workers. I also enjoy riding dirt bikes with my seven year old son.

What do you like best about being part of the fire department?

Serving and giving back to the community. God has given each of us certain gifts and my gift was the ability and desire to help those in need. I know that sounds cliche but I really do appreciate the fact that I can help someone who is in need.

What is your most memorable incident?

Probably the plane crash that got me interested in being a firefighter.
