Hotel Staff Saves Room

On September 13th at approx. 13:40 hrs. Pinch Fire Department was dispatched to a reported commercial structure fire at the Sleep Inn Hotel on Pennsylvania Ave. in the Mink Shoals area. Lieutenant 2 arrived on scene moments after being dispatched and reported nothing showing from the exterior. Upon further investigation it was found that there was heavy smoke on the 3rd floor and that the fire was contained in one room at this time.

Tower Ladder 2 and Engine 23 arrived on scene together and established a secure water source from a nearby hydrant. Tower Ladder 2's crew made entry to the building reaching the 3rd floor to find smoky conditions in the hallway. The fire was located in one room and was extinguished quickly using a water can. Crews used the thermal imaging camera and checked for extension throughout the room and hallway. After no extension was found crews went to work ventilating the building to remove the smoke.

The cause of the fire was found to be a wall mounted A/C unit and was removed from the room by staff. No injuries were reported throughout the incident and all occupants were able to be returned to their respective rooms. It was later discovered that one of the staff m
