Tractor Trailer Accident

On 06/11/2014 at approx. 2207 hrs. Pinch Fire Department was dispatched to I-79 North in the area of the 15 mile marker for a tractor trailer accident with unknown contents. Upon arriving on scene crews found a jack-knifed tractor trailer in the median at the 16 mile marker. All occupants were out of the vehicle at the time of arrival. Crews immediately went to work assisting EMS with patient assessment and stabilization of the vehicle. The tractor trailer was found the be hauling dry food containers.

The tractor trailer was found the have a large diesel fuel and oil leak that was actively running through the median. Crews immediately began damming the area below the spill and was able to contain a majority with no threat to the general public. Department of Environmental Protection agency was called to the scene to assist with the clean up of the hazards. Crews were able to complete an under-flow dam with secondary containment area.

No injuries resulted from the accident. Crews were on scene for approx 1 1/2 hours assisting with clean up and traffic control. Division of Highways and Department of Transportation was also called to the scene to survey damage to a large section of guard rail damage during the crash. The cause of the crash was determined to be hydroplaning.
