Swiftwater Rescue Team Saves Dog from the Elk River

Shortly before 1pm Pinch VFD units were called to Elk River beneath the Blue Creek Bridge for a possible water rescue. Upon arrival Utility 25 reported a small dog was stranded on a debris pile at the center pillar of the bridge. Neighbors report hearing the dog barking for five days, however he was not spotted until this afternoon. Once additional resources arrived, and a downstream safety was established, two members of our Swiftwater Rescue Team made a successful pick-off with Boat 2. Our team and the dog safely returned to shore.

Since nobody claimed the dog, it was turned over to the Kanawha/Charleston Humane Society and will receive veterinary care until it is adopted. If you are interested in adopting the rescued dog please visit the humane society's website at www.wvanimalshelter.com or call them at: (304) 342-1576.

Please check the video section of our website for video of the rescue!
